It has been instilled in us from early on as to when we need a hair cut. Some people use the 6 month method to haircuts, others come in whenever they are looking for a new hair style or hair ideas. But WHY do we constantly change our look? WHY do we all try to find the next trendy hairstyle, haircut, or hair color to make us stand out. Can just a haircut really do that much for a person’s image and confidence? We all seem to think so.

Hair cutting and hair styling have been around since the ancient Greeks. Women used to create lavish designs using ribbon or thread. In the Roman age, your hair color would determine what class you were in. Blondes were either noblemen or women. Redheads were considered middle class, and brunettes were in the lower class. If caught impersonating an upper classman, you would suffer the consequences. (hmmm, luckily for us this doesn’t happen now). The freedom to do what we want to our hair when we want to have fun is sometimes simply putting forth a bold statement of how fun we feel and how we wish to present ourselves.

Hair is an extension of our personal lifestyles. These styles range from sleek and shiny to natural and exotic–and all of them represent something about the person wearing the style.

Enter “the cut”. Rocker girls go for that punky look, like a Chelsea. Even some funky colors like reds or blues, maybe even some green and pink. “Fashionistas” like the long layered look that goes with everything. The proud man or woman who wears their hair like their ancestors did, are allowing their natural texture and waves to make their ancestral statement.

And the fashion world hasn’t forgotten about human hair. New products and styles come out all the time in support of the “flexibility” of the human hair. A-Line hair styles are the go to short hair cuts for women. “Bob” haircuts are just as popular nowadays as ever before. The fashion empire has literally brought to the table new, innovative, and fashionable cuts never before seen in days gone by.

Stylists these days use different types of shears to create different styles. For example, you can use texture shears to give softer look rather than just a regular cut. Cutting by layers allow your layers to blend in to the rest of the cut, giving more of a romantic appeal instead of a harsh-edged look. If you want a hard-cutting look point-cutting would work the best—it gives a choppy, fun, rocker style to your hair. If you have thick hair, thinning shears will eliminate the bulk but allow you to keep your length so that you don’t just cut off ALL of your hair.

So, there are countless ways to achieve “the look” with hair cutting. Hair cutting isn’t just to make your hair not-so-dead looking. It makes a statement! Your hair says a lot about the person that you are. How you style or how you wear your hair is just another way of letting people know who you are and what you like. If you have a very innocent way of thinking you wouldn’t shave off your hair, right? You would keep a soft whimsical look, something that flows and isn’t so rough around the edges. There are many different styles of cutting and ways to make them match your style. And, as you can see, getting a haircut is much, MUCH more than just “cutting” your hair.

So talk to your hair-dresser and see what styles work for you. You will be truly amazed at the possibilities that you and our professional stylists can create for you.
